I obtained the following tertiary qualifications
- a 3-year Baccalaureus degree in Languages (BA) with Afrikaans and English as major subjects and with Latin and Zulu as minor subjects from the University of Pretoria (UP) - issued 1987.
- a 1-year Higher Education Diploma (HED) with Afrikaans and English as major subjects from the University of Pretoria (UP) - issued 1987.
- a 3-year Baccalaureus Legum Civilium (BLC) degree in law from the University of Pretoria (UP) - issued 1988.
- a 3-year Diploma Iuris in law from the University of South Africa (UNISA) - issued 1992.
- a 5-year Baccalaureus Legum (LLB) degree in law from the University of South Africa (UNISA) - issued 1995.
My legal background
1992 – 1994:
Employed as State Prosecutor in Heidelberg District Court.
-- Study simultaneously at UNISA.
1994:
– Obtain LLB degree (5 years).
1994 – 1997:
Regional Court Prosecutor – managed both Heidelberg and Brakpan regional courts.
1997 – 1999:
Articled clerk at Bothma, Nothnagel & Röntgen Attorneys in Brakpan with right of appearance in regional courts.
22/04/1999 – admission as Attorney in the High Court of South Africa.
1999 – 2001:
Professional assistant at Bothma, Nothnagel & Röntgen Attorneys in Brakpan.
2001 – current:
Practices as a single practitioner under the name and style of C.J. Human Attorneys in Brakpan since 2001 and also in Heidelberg (Gauteng) since 2011.
CJ Human Attorneys operates in association with Viljoen & Meek Attorneys at 29 Voortrekker Street in Heidelberg since 2015.
2006:
Awarded Section 4(2) right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa.
2015:
Attended a Judicial Skills Training Program presented by The Law Society of the Northern Provinces at Kievitskroon on 05-08/07/2015 under the supervision of the Deputy Judge President of North Gauteng (Pretoria), the Honourable Justice A.P. Ledwaba, and several High Court and Appeal Court judges.
2016:
Invited by the Deputy Judge President of South Gauteng (Johannesburg), the Honorable Justice P. Mojapelo (DJP), to attend an Advanced Judicial Skills Training Session presented at the offices of The Law Society of the Northern Provinces in Pretoria on 02/04/2016 under the supervision of himself and another High Court judge.
My practical legal experience

I have handled the following types of litigation with success already -
- Criminal prosecutions in military tribunals, district courts and regional courts.
- Court appearances while defending clients against criminal prosecutions in military tribunals, district - and regional courts as well as in the High Court, the latter both in person as well as where advocates were briefed.
- Court appearances in Children’s courts, Family Violence matters, Harassment matters, Maintenance matters and Inquests in magistrate’s courts.
- Court appearances in several and wide-ranging types of civil litigation in magistrate’s courts.
- Appearances for employees and for employers regarding labour law matters in disciplinary hearings, in Bargaining Councils, in arbitration forums of the CCMA and in the Labour Court.
- Appearances for both creditors and witnesses in insolvency/sequestration enquiries, in Magistrate Courts and before privately appointed commissioners.
- Court appearances regarding divorce matters in the Central Divorce Court, in various regional courts and in the High Court.
- Criminal Appeals in various High Courts - Advocates briefed.
- Criminal Appeal in the Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein - Advocate briefed.
- Civil matters and divorces in High Courts - Advocates briefed.
- Civil Appeal in the Pretoria High Court - Advocate briefed.
- All office administration in a private firm, offering legal advice, drawing of contracts, wills and trusts, wounding up of estates, handling of motor vehicle accident claims, liquidations, property transactions and debt collections, etc.
- Handled numerous legal aid instructions (estimated 1 000+ criminal matters) as Judicare practitioner for the Legal Aid Board in district- and regional courts and the High Court over a period of more than 20 years. (1997-2019).
- Acted as presiding officer in several disciplinary hearings/inquiries for various businesses, organisations and schools over a period of more than 10 years.
